Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have High School diploma or equivalency (GED)
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years of recent Class 3 driving experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to lift up to a maximum of 20 kg, with knees, back, and shoulders capable of withstanding frequent periods of lifting, sitting, standing, driving, climbing in and out of trucks, pushing, and pulling
  • The candidates should be able to work in dusty conditions and be prepared to work in all types of weather conditions
  • The candidates should be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit
  • The candidates should be required to provide proof of qualifications

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 3 Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent) with a Q endorsement and no more than six demerits, and they should have no current suspension or charges pending and have basic computer skills
  • The candidates should be safety-conscious and willing to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the job
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to complete tasks with limited supervision, engage others, and interact with co-workers, as well as members of the public, based on the City of Calgary 4 Cs essential behaviours (character, competence, commitment, and collaboration)
  • The candidates should also be willing and available to work in a variety of locations across Calgary
  • The candidates should possess a 3-year commercial driver’s abstract with no more than 6 demerits

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to drive a truck to residential, commercial, or public areas and waste management facilities
  • The candidates should be able to operate rear tipper, side loader, front end loader, and engage in the manual handling of waste and containers
  • The candidates should be able to conduct vehicle inspections to ensure safe and proper working order
  • The candidates should be able to represent the City of Calgary to the public and demonstrate exceptional customer service
