Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as Completion of Grade 10, Grade 12 or a combination of training, education and experience
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to remain calm, professional, alert, and high-functioning under stressful conditions
  • The candidates should be able to work in a fast-paced, complex, and changing working environment and go through a Police Record Check
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively with minimal supervision and as part of a larger team and able to establish, maintain, and prepare a variety of records, files, and reports related to the work
  • The candidates should have the physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including walking long distances, up and down stairs under a variety of weather conditions
  • The candidates should be able to physically lower and raise heavy-duty flags under a variety of weather conditions and should meet transportation requirements

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have Occupational First Aid Level II certification, possess Basic Security Training (BST) certification and hold Advanced Security Training (AST) certification
  • The candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of security policies, procedures, techniques, principles, standards, and requirements as they relate to the work performed
  • The candidates should possess a working knowledge of the buildings, grounds, and parking areas that will be patrolled and/or secured
  • The candidates should demonstrate a commitment to customer service excellence and have strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to deal effectively and tactfully with difficult or potentially volatile situations
  • The candidates should have good computer skills and a working knowledge of computer information access and protection and demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to write reports as required
  • The candidates should be able to gain cooperation from others and to take effective measures in emergency situations and be capable of implementing conflict resolution strategies
  • The candidates should be able to collect, analyze, and prioritize relevant information and understand priority situations and attend to them in a timely fashion
  • The candidates should handle confidential and/or sensitive information with a high degree of discretion and impartiality

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Manager, Security Programs within City Protective Services (CPS) and work as part of a team deployed across multiple civic properties
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including the public, emergency services, City staff, and contractors
  • The candidates should be able to provide direction and support to the public, staff, and contractors entering or leaving civic buildings, respond to inquiries, and monitor and grant access to appropriate personnel
  • The candidates should be able to monitor security cameras (CCTV), perform foot patrols in designated locations across civic facilities and parking areas, and follow established protocols for lockup and closure of facilities to ensure security
  • The candidates should be able to identify risks and escalate accordingly, provide security and/or first aid response when engaged, and resolve conflicts using verbal de-escalation.
  • The candidates should be able to perform dispatch and control center duties, investigate unusual events or incidents, and provide detailed incident reports in a timely manner
  • The candidates should be able to respond to emergency situations as a priority, call for appropriate assistance, and maintain records of keys, access cards, and other forms of information for city facilities
  • The candidates should be able to receive and redirect incoming mail as per site instructions and perform any other duties as assigned
