Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have minimum of 15 months of experience in sewer maintenance or a similar construction or maintenance field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be able to safely operate the various equipment and hydraulic/power/hand tools required for the job
- The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- The candidates should have the physical ability to perform the duties of the job
- The candidates should be willing to work on-call and overtime, as required
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should obtain and maintain Ontario MOE Class 1 Wastewater Collection Operator Certificate within the timeframe determined by the employer
- The candidates should possess a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- The candidates should obtain Ontario unrestricted DZ class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) within the timeframe determined by the employer
- The candidates should have a Forklift Operator Licence
- The candidates should have a Hoisting and Rigging training certificate
- The candidates should have a Chainsaw Operator Safety training certificate
- The candidates should complete all required on-the-job training/certifications (e.g., WHMIS, fall arrest, confined space entry, etc.) within the timeframe determined by the employer
- The candidates should have an understanding of sanitary, combined, and storm sewer systems and related structures unit instructions, Standard Operating Procedures, manuals, and processes
- The candidates should be knowledgeable about applicable City, ESD, and Branch policies, standards, guidelines, and processes
- The candidates should understand construction standards and methods for the installation and repair of collection systems components
- The candidates should be familiar with preventive maintenance activities for the sanitary, combined, and storm sewer system
- The candidates should have knowledge of the Sewer Use By-law
- The candidates should possess knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
- The candidates should have proficient writing skills to complete required work documentation
- The candidates should possess good verbal communication skills
- The candidates should have the ability to use a personal and/or handheld computer and software such as MS Outlook, MS Word, ArcGIS, geoOttawa
- The candidates should be able to read and understand drawings or sketches
- The candidates should be punctual and dependable with a good attendance record
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to oversee the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Collection infrastructure and systems
- The candidates should be able to perform or assist with inspections, maintenance, and general repairs of the City’s sanitary, combined, and storm sewer system structures
- The candidates should be able to rotate through various work activities such as in-sewer inspection, in-house repairs, surveys, routine cleaning, special cleaning, service truck operations, and inspection of contractor construction/major repairs
