Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of related experience working with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding and torch cutting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be proficient in welding techniques and practices
  • The candidates should be capable of standing, bending, and working in various positions during welding tasks
  • The candidates should have the ability to lift and move materials and tools relevant to welding processes

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a trade certification for a Licensed 456A Welder and/or 437A Metal Fabricator
  • The candidates should be proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel/Word)
  • The candidates should demonstrate technical skills (e.g., the ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform repairs)
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable of shop safety practices
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to assist in the design and development of safety programs and standard operating procedures
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable and experienced with operating a variety of industrial machinery
  • The candidates should be experienced in teaching/instructing students within an academic institution, which is considered an asset
  • The candidates should be experienced in specifying and ordering consumables, specifying capital equipment purchases, and tracking inventory
  • The candidates should be experienced in overseeing junior employees (i.e., apprentices and/or students), managing deliverable projects, and interacting with clients and customers, which is preferred
  • The candidates should be able to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population with a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion
  • The candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to present to diverse audiences and communities

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop lab exercises and oversee student projects for the lab component in consultation with faculty
  • The candidates should be able to design and implement systems and procedures for demonstrating safe and correct operating procedures for equipment and hand tools, including the proper use of welding machines, horizontal saw, shear, plasma cutter, brake press, iron worker, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to prepare the lab environment for scheduled labs, including installing software, setting up hardware, ensuring consumable materials are available, student tool kits, etc.
  • The candidates should be able to provide technical advice and recommendations to administration and faculty regarding the purchase of equipment and consumables and make appropriate decisions regarding purchasing within prescribed limits
  • The candidates should be able to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot equipment in the welding lab and the virtual welding machines
  • The candidates should be able to prepare for events by leading a group of colleagues, organizing event activities, and/or participating in events
  • The candidates should be able to perform other related duties as assigned
