Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Secondary School education
Experience: Candidates should have 5+ years of field experience working on boilers, MUA’s, RTU’s, and light-duty refrigeration systems

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be physically capable of performing all work required, including occasional lifting of 25 kg up to shoulder height, frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, working in various weather conditions, and climbing ladders
  • The candidates should be able to understand and learn new technologies, work independently, and collaborate with others

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a valid Gas Technician 1 Certificate accredited by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) and a valid Ozone Depletion Certificate
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, Ontario Electrical Code, OH&S Regulations, and other applicable codes and possess a Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (Ontario 313a)
  • The candidates should have a valid G Driver’s Licence and a clean driver’s abstract and troubleshoot low-voltage controls and be mindful of working on live power systems only when absolutely required, using applicable PPE
  • The candidates should be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both in written and verbal communications
  • The candidates should have strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, outstanding customer service skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office and computer tablet applications
  • The candidates should be able to read and interpret blueprints and additional qualifications in Building Automation and controls

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to conduct preventative and demand (reactive) maintenance activities on various equipment and systems, troubleshoot, diagnose issues, and maintain equipment efficiently
  • The candidates should be able to replace equipment as required in a cost-effective manner and inspect new equipment for compliance and proper installation, including work conducted by Capital Improvements, Life Cycle Replacement, and Emergency Capital projects
  • The candidates should be able to support and assist with design and installation reviews of Capital projects, comply with relevant City policies, provide ad hoc assistance on projects and initiatives within the unit or team
  • The candidates should be able to use information stored within the unit/team and accessible without special authorization
  • The candidates should be able to purchase materials and equipment and submit monthly expenses, provide functional guidance to apprentices and co-op students
  • The candidates should be able to promote and participate in a team-based, continuous improvement-focused, customer service-oriented environment by actively communicating with all staff and clients perform other duties
