Salary: $4,400 bi-weekly for 40 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: Nelson, BC
Shifts: Day, Weekend, On Call
Supervision: 1 to 2 people

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 7 months
Credentials: Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Certification and Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to pay attention to detail and work in a fast-paced environment
  • The candidates should be able to manage a combination of sitting, standing, walking and work under pressure

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should be accurate, dependable, and demonstrate efficient interpersonal skills
  • The candidate should communicate excellently both orally and in writing, be flexible, and take initiative
  • The candidate should use good judgment, be reliable, and a team player

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds and flocks through physical examinations or laboratory tests
  • The candidates should be able to treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds or performing surgery
  • The candidates should be able to vaccinate animals to prevent and treat diseases
  • The candidates should be able to advise clients on feeding, housing, behavior, breeding, hygiene and general care of animals
  • The candidates should be able to enforce government regulations in disease control and food production, including animal or animal-based food inspection
  • The candidates should be able to perform routine, emergency and post-mortem examinations
  • The candidates should be able to provide a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry and euthanasia
  • The candidates should be able to supervise animal health technologists and animal care workers

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
