Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of intermittent lifting and assisting patients’ movement into specific positions during assessment and testing, as well as moving or repositioning heavy equipment and perform fine motor movements involving the shoulder, hand, and wrist while applying significant pressure to the ultrasound transducer to enhance and define images
  • The candidates should be prepared to scan patients for up to 7 hours daily, requiring moderate to high personal strength intensity and aware of exposure to communicable diseases transmitted through human blood and body fluids
  • The candidates should be able to work in dimly lit environments, which may pose moderate eye strain and manage frequent and high-intensity demands for using fine motor skills to enhance and define imagery with sonographic techniques, as well as palpating lumps or organs on various parts of the body
  • The candidates should be prepared for the possibility of being exposed to death, dying, or other emotionally disturbing experiences, requiring them to remain calm, controlled, and professional while demonstrating compassionate care
  • The candidates should be able to perform very personal invasive examinations vaginal, scrotal, breast) and manage high levels of patient anxiety, which can cause significant mental stress and handle the pressure of thoroughly scanning patients to produce and interpret optimal images within a set time frame, addressing challenges such as the physical size and age of the patient, inadequate patient preparation, late arrivals, and language barriers

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have advanced knowledge of internal anatomy and physiology of all areas examined using sonography methods and be able to seek out and recognize pathological changes in internal anatomy, including understanding pathologies affecting internal structures
  • The candidates should have an understanding of and the ability to conduct quality control (QC) measures on all ultrasound equipment
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of and be able to efficiently operate a RIS (Radiology Information System) and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
  • The candidates should demonstrate initiative, showing persistence by taking multiple steps to overcome obstacles or rejection and not giving up easily when faced with challenges
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively, conveying information clearly to both medical and non-medical individuals
  • The candidates should have in-depth knowledge and advanced ability to perform and interpret detailed ultrasound examinations in the following areas: adult and pediatric neck, abdomen, pelvis, scrotum, adult heart, deep leg veins, breasts, and the pregnant abdomen, including the developing fetus
  • The candidates should possess specialized knowledge of ultrasound physics to create and interpret the images produced
  • The candidates should demonstrate highly developed hand-eye coordination, executing fine movements of the hand and wrist to accurately image subtle and minute details of anatomy

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to utilize ultrasound equipment to independently produce and interpret high-quality sonographic images required by the Radiologist for accurate patient diagnosis
  • The candidates should be able to perform sonographic examinations on a variety of internal structures, including the adult and pediatric neck, abdomen, pelvis, scrotum, adult heart, deep leg veins, breasts, and the pregnant abdomen, including the developing fetus
  • The candidates should be able to provide hands-on support and patient care during invasive examinations conducted by a Radiologist, including but not limited to biopsies and aspirations
  • The candidates should be able to handle all preparations required for invasive procedures, including explaining the procedure to the patient, documenting necessary images, and providing post-procedure care
  • The candidates should be able to independently locate the specific area to be biopsied for the Radiologist or Physician to perform the procedure, utilizing real-time ultrasound performed by the Sonographer
  • The candidates should be able to alert the Radiologist or referring Physician of abnormal findings
  • The candidates should be able to enter all exam results into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) and advocate for the patient’s dignity and self-respect
  • The candidates should be able to promote the autonomy of patients, helping them express their health needs and values to obtain appropriate information and services
  • The candidates should be able to act in a manner consistent with their professional responsibilities and standards of practice
