Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a three year community college diploma or degree in Civil Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have over five years of demonstrated progressive experience in the design, contract administration, and inspection of linear municipal infrastructure projects
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should be eligible for a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Professional Engineer (P.Eng), Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, and Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) certification
- The candidates should have experience with the Highway Traffic Act, Construction Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), Work Zone Safety, and other applicable legislation and specifications
- The candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with the public, Council, contractors, and City staff, demonstrating a strong ability to build and maintain relationships
- The candidates should be knowledgeable in MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS systems, and activity management systems
- The candidates should have supervisory experience and the ability to provide technical expertise in planning, budgeting, design, tender processes, contract administration, and construction, ensuring high levels of service that reflect the City’s standards and policies
- The candidates should possess a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License in good standing during the course of employment
- The candidates should have IMS 200 Certification or equivalent (ICS200), considered an asset. Subject to course availability, certification must be achieved within the first year of employment
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to provide leadership and guidance to staff related to construction and site supervision of small and large complex linear capital projects
- The candidates should be able to assist in the development of project schedules, cost management, research, and strategies related to new technologies for project delivery
- The candidates should be able to provide guidance and recommendations in negotiations with contractors and consultants regarding project schedules, costs, claims, contract change orders, and all documents and site-related issues
- The candidates should be able to assist in the preparation and interpretation of construction procurement documents, including Request for Proposal (RFP), Request for Tender (RFT), Request for Quotes (RFQ), and review records, documents, reports, and drawings while managing risks to deliver quality projects within budget and schedule
