Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have at least one month of experience as a Track Worker
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have completed Grade 10 education or its recognized equivalent as determined by the assessment of education credentials by the TTC Operations Training Centre
- The candidates should be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions, demonstrated by the ability to understand and follow published operating/safety rules and regulations
- The candidates should be able to speak clearly in order to exchange information and instructions with Control Centres
- The candidates should possess a valid class “G” province of Ontario driver’s licence, or better, and be able to pass the written and practical tests required for a class “DZ” driver’s licence
- The candidates should be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain the trainee status
- The candidates will be classified as a Track Maintainer Trainee for a period of 9 months during which time the applicable training will be provided
- The candidates who successfully complete the classroom and on-the-job training will be classified as a Track Maintainer (Wage Group 5)
- The candidates should have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders, including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to line up track and ensure correct gaps for thermite welding
- The candidates should be able to assemble switches and turnouts, or rebuild them with new parts
- The candidates should be able to clean, lubricate, inspect, and perform minor repairs to switch lock mechanisms
- The candidates should be able to lay track drains and drain pipes effectively and replace various track allowances, roadway, and subway invert paving materials
- The candidates should be able to operate and maintain electrical and pneumatic equipment, including jack hammers, concrete breakers, chippers, tampers, wrenches, rail saws, rail drills, saws, grinders, switch grinders, profile grinders, and more
- The candidates should be able to start, operate, shut down, and perform minor servicing on compressors, generators, saws, drills, impact wrenches, vibrating equipment, and accessories
- The candidates should be able to set out traffic delineators, barricades, track lights, flags, and impassable track setups on various work sites in strict accordance with published safety regulations
