Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Graduation with a secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Experience: Candidates should have experience performing routine maintenance tasks including general repairs to trails, roads, bridges, buildings and other facilities

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to operate and maintain tools and equipment associated with campground and trail maintenance
  • The candidates should be capable of safely operating a chainsaw, circular saw, pole saw, brush cutter, whipper snippers, and lawnmower
  • The candidates should be able to carry out routine inspections
  • The candidates should be able to pass a backpack test (25lbs bag test is timed)
  • The candidates should be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and periodic medical assessments as required
  • The candidates should be willing to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment
  • The candidates should be willing to work and/or travel in varied terrain, weather conditions, and remote locations

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of safety procedures and precautions
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to contribute and work within a team environment, taking responsibility when needed
  • The candidates should communicate effectively
  • The candidates should demonstrate initiative in their work and should be dependable and reliable
  • The candidates should be willing to learn and adapt
  • The candidates should have successfully completed first aid and CPR or Wilderness first aid and CPR
  • The candidates should hold a chainsaw certification and possess a Carpentry Certificate
  • The candidates should have experience operating a small drinking water system and hold the relevant certificate
  • The candidates should be able to obtain and maintain Reliability Security Status
  • The candidates should possess and maintain a valid Class G driver’s license
  • The candidates should complete a certified chainsaw course

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide general maintenance, repair, and labor services to support grounds, roads, trails, and facilities maintenance for the Parks Canada Agency
  • The candidates should be able to assist with construction and installations as needed, as well as other general maintenance and repair requirements
  • The candidates should be able to help with campground, building, and vessel operation duties as required
