Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as college, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 3 months to less than 1 year
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 2 years
Computer and technology knowledge: MS Windows, Desktop applications, Google Drive
Documentation knowledge: Accident or incident reports, Bill of lading, Driver logbook, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), Maintenance and repair reports, Trip reports
Own tools/equipment: Cellular phone, Hard hat, Steel-toed safety boots, Tools, Safety vest, Gloves
Type of trucking and equipment: Extended length tractor-trailer combination, Flatbed, Straight truck (4,600kg+ or 10,000lbs+ with 3+ axles), Tractor-trailer
Communication systems experience: Citizens band (CB) radio, Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment, Trip recorder (on-board computer)
Transportation/travel experience: Local, Long-haul, National, Provincial/territorial, Regional, Short-haul
Credentials: Air Brakes Endorsement, Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi trailer trucks), Forklift Operator Certification, Pro-Trucker/Smart Driver (fuel efficiency) Training, Professional Driver Improvement Certificate
Security and safety: Basic security clearance, Criminal record check, Driver’s validity licence check, Driving record check (abstract), Drug test, Medical exam

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to pay attention to detail, handle heavy loads and manage a large workload
  • The candidates should be able to work overtime when required, perform physically demanding tasks and handle repetitive tasks
  • The candidates should be able to sit for extended periods and lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate efficient interpersonal skills, exhibit excellent oral communication and display excellent written communication
  • The candidates should be flexible, able to show sound judgement and organized

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, GPS or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions, address customers’ complaints or concerns, and coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate mountain driving expertise, maintain professionalism in customer service and arrange travel, related itineraries and make reservations
  • The candidates should be able to load and unload goods, oversee vehicle condition and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, and pay and receive payments for goods
  • The candidates should be able to perform brake adjustments, perform emergency roadside repairs and perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspections, overseeing all aspects of the vehicle
  • The candidates should be able to perform preventive maintenance, receive and relay information to central dispatch, and record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
  • The candidates should be able to tarp and ensure safety and security of cargo, assist equipment operators to secure attachments to equipment or truck, and install, lash and secure goods
