Snowland Vegetable Farms based in Halbstadt, MB is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Vegetable farm worker. Snowland Vegetable Farms is a diversified agricultural operation specializing in the cultivation of a wide array of vegetables, including pumpkins, sweet corn, carrots, beets, garlic, onions, tomatoes, and zucchinis. Under the management of Scott Friesen, the farm spans over 95 acres dedicated to pumpkin production alone, with additional acreage for other crops. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Type of crops: Bell Peppers, Carrots, Cucumbers, Garlic, Melons, Onions, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, Zucchinis, Potatoes, and Vegetables

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualification such as degree, certificate or diploma
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience, training will be provided
Area of specialization: Nursery or greenhouse
Automated systems experience: Automated irrigation system
Equipment and machinery experience: Carrot Seeder, Farm Truck, Tractor, Vegetable Harvester, Planting Equipment, Sprayer or Duster, Tillage Equipment, and Hand Tools

Physical Requirements:

• The candidates should be able to work independently, in a fast-paced environment, perform repetitive tasks, work under pressure, handle heavy loads, and meet tight deadlines
• The candidates should be able to perform physically demanding tasks, have hand-eye coordination, distinguish between colours, have attention to detail, and stand for extended periods
• The candidates should be able to bend, crouch, and kneel, have sound discrimination skills, combine sitting, standing, and walking, and walk for extended periods
• The candidates should have knowledge of corn farming, experience in fruit and vegetable combination farming, experience in other miscellaneous crop farming, and knowledge of other vegetables and melon farming (except potato)
• The candidates should be able to work outdoors, be comfortable working in/on water, work in wet/damp conditions, work in dusty environments, work in hot conditions, work in noisy environments, and work in cold/refrigerated environments
• The candidates should be able to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

Other Requirements:

• The candidates should be flexible
• The candidates should be team players

Responsibilities:

• The candidates should be able to apply the technique of hoeing between the row, clean the crops, and divide fresh harvested produce into marketable lots and non-marketable lots
• The candidates should be able to grade vegetables and fruits into different grades according to the size, shape, colour and volume to fetch high price in market, clean greenhouses, and hand harvest vegetables
• The candidates should be able to pack fruits and vegetables, plant, cultivate and irrigate crops, and sort fruits and vegetables
• The candidates should be able to tie and secure plants, weed, and harvest crops
• The candidates should be able to load, unload and transfer crates, supplies and farm produce, livestock and poultry, operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, and detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry
• The candidates should be able to cut horticultural crops

Candidate Status:

• Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
• Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
