Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of 2-year diploma in Environmental Education, Communications and Environmental Sciences
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared to work in an office environment, landfill, community centers, and exhibition halls, and be required to drive to offsite meetings
  • The candidates should be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a completed a related field, combined with at least of relevant experience; OR a degree in any of the above listed fields or related, combined with at least 1 year of relevant experience
  • The candidates should have experience that includes customer service, handling customer complaints and difficult customers, education techniques, and event management
  • The candidates should have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalency) with no more than 6 demerits OR a Class 5 Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits, and no current charges or suspension pending
  • The candidates should have a solid understanding of environmental education techniques and prepared to provide proof of qualifications
  • The candidates should possess excellent customer focus, communication, social marketing, and environmental education skills, along with the ability to engage and interact with the public

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop and deliver W&RS educational programs to school groups, the general public, and specific groups as requested, such as seniors, persons with developmental disabilities, businesses, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
  • The candidates should be able to maintain program information, track participation, and evaluate programs on an ongoing basis
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with local organizations to train volunteers in support of their waste and recycling education and waste diversion efforts
  • The candidates should be able to represent W&RS at public events such as trade shows, festivals, councilor events, and booths in public areas
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with internal departments to develop customized information sessions to promote services
  • The candidates should be able to develop communication materials and write educational material based on the latest research in the field of environmental education
  • The candidates should be able to coordinate with internal departments to collect and analyze data
