Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have certification through S-131 Forest Fire Fighting Training
Experience: Candidates should have experience in firefighting

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be capable of strenuous physical effort while engaged in fire suppression activities over extended periods. This includes tasks such as constructing fire guards, carrying fire hose, digging out ground fires, and performing maintenance work on grounds, buildings, and equipment
  • The candidates should be prepared to work in environments subject to intense smoke, heat, insects, and variable weather conditions
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a high level of continuous attention under sometimes considerable stress while assessing firefighting requirements, organizing, and directing firefighters and aircraft in the field
  • The candidates should be able to react to changing situations effectively
  • The candidates should be prepared for this aspect of the job continuous stretches on the fire line may disrupt home routines and cause mental stress

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of fire control practices and policies and should have demonstrated knowledge of fire line equipment and its use
  • The candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of weather and forest fire behavior
  • The candidates should have to complete training in Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) for ground transportation
  • The candidates should have to complete training in Standard First Aid, CPR-C, and AED and English language fluency is required for communications with air crews, Initial Attack Officers, and Division Supervisors
  • The candidates should have to complete mandatory HR training and completed ICS-100 training and should have to obtain a valid Class 5 driver’s license and obtain a valid passport
  • The candidates should have a valid Restricted Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC-A) license, which is a legal requirement for radio transmissions
  • The candidates should have demonstrated competency in the usage of GPS and should have the ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
  • The candidates should have demonstrated competency in the usage of issued safety devices such as InReach device and satellite phone
  • The candidates should have the ability to commit to actively upholding and consistently practicing personal diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness, as well as safety and sensitivity approaches in the workplace

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to test and maintain forest management equipment, ensuring its proper functioning during firefighting operations
  • The candidates should be able to perform minor building and ground maintenance tasks to upkeep facilities and infrastructure within forested areas
  • The candidates should be able to work effectively with air tankers, helicopters, and heavy equipment, understanding their operation and safety protocols during firefighting operations
  • The candidates should be able to supervise extra firefighters and lesser experienced firefighters, providing guidance and leadership during firefighting activities
  • The candidates should be able to participate actively in training programs to enhance firefighting skills and stay updated on firefighting techniques and procedures
  • The candidates should be able to complete smoke patrols and fire assessments, identifying potential fire hazards and monitoring fire activity within designated areas
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate recent certification through S-131 Forest Fire Fighting Training, showcasing proficiency in firefighting techniques and safety procedures specific to forest fire management
  • The candidates should be able to exhibit past experience in firefighting, either through previous employment or volunteer work, providing practical knowledge and skills relevant to wildfire management
  • The candidates should be able to pass an annual Firefighter Work Capacity Testing standard, demonstrating physical fitness and readiness to perform firefighting duties effectively in challenging environments

Benefits:
