Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have its recognized equivalent, as determined by the Operations Training Centre
  • The candidates should be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions, including understanding and following published operating or safety rules and regulations
  • The candidates should be able to speak clearly to exchange information and instructions with control centers and follow proper radio and telephone protocol
  • The candidates should be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain trainee status and a valid Class G driver’s license from the Province of Ontario
  • The candidates should pass a vision test and meet the established pre-test set by the Training and Development Department and be fitted with a respirator
  • The candidates should be classified as a Workcar Operator Trainee for 12 months, during which time applicable training

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform daily service checks on vehicles, including inspecting cables, hoses, lights, trip cock valves, collector shoes, tightening nuts, greasing, and topping up oil and fluids, reporting any servicing or repairs required to supervisors and completing the appropriate forms
  • The candidates should be able to ensure that vehicles are kept clean, both inside and outside
  • The candidates should be able to ensure rail cars are properly coupled and secured during push or pull operations, including coupling and uncoupling vehicles and perform related duties
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate behaviors that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment
  • The candidates should be able to help remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC), Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies
