Ontario Public Services, Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, division of the Youth Justice Division – Cecil Facer Youth Centre is hiring the position of Youth Service Officer. *Indicates the salary listed as per the OPSEU Collective Agreement. The hours of work are up to 40 hours per week (pre-scheduled and on-call). You are expected to work rotating shifts. He/she should within a secure custody/detention facility setting that functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualification such as post-secondary education from a college/university of recognized standing in a related field with emphasis in behavior management, adolescent development, and knowledge of family group dynamics
Experience: Candidates need one year of recent relevant work experience OR a recognized secondary school diploma with supplementary courses in human behavior plus three years of recent relevant work experience

  • The candidate should be a dedicated professionals to join Cecil Facer Youth Centre located in Sudbury Ontario, as a Youth Services Officer providing primary/direct services to youth within a secure detention/custody setting
  • The candidate should have a valid Emergency First Aid, CPR (level C) and AED Certification
  • The candidate should have knowledge of various sociological issues impacting on youth and also have knowledge of case management and group work principles and techniques, and gender-responsive therapeutic programming, and treatment approaches.
  • The candidate should have knowledge of mental health and behavioral disorders, abnormal and deviant psychology, symptoms and causes of deviant behavior, and cognitive behavioral intervention-philosophy and techniques, as well as, knowledge and understanding of youth/adolescent development and also have knowledge of a variety of youth justice-related legislation (i.e. Youth Criminal Justice Act, Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Human Rights Code).
  • The candidate should have advanced communication skills – written, verbal and non-verbal, and interpersonal skills and also have good interviewing, mentorship, coaching and counseling skills.
  • The candidate should be able to build positive relationships with youth and also have facilitation and team-building skills
  • The candidate should have analytical, interpretive, reasoning and problem-solving skills and also have computer skills to operate various business software and operational systems.
  • The candidate should be able to provide security clearance and a criminal record check

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to perform a full range of duties related to the supervision and case management of youth on an assigned rotating shift, utilizing a relationship custody/cognitive learning behavioral approach within a secure custody/detention facility setting that functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and also be able to identify and participate in the provision of appropriate structured rehabilitative programs and services for a diverse population of youth
  • The candidate should be able to ensure the safety and security of youth, staff, youth center and community
