Job Description:

Salary: $18.06 to $35.09 hourly (To be negotiated) for 40 hours per week
Employment Type: Permanent employment Full time
Location: 235 Blackmarsh Road St. John’s, NL A1E 4T2
Shifts: Day, 08:00 to 16:30
Transportation information: Own transportation, and public transportation is available
Work setting: Child care centre, and urban area

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as College/CEGEP
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Credentials: Child development worker (ECE level 2) and First Aid Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check, vulnerable sector check

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be comfortable working in an air-conditioned environment and demonstrate attention to detail in their work
  • The candidates should be comfortable with a combination of sitting, standing, and walking duties

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be punctual, dependable, and reliable in meeting deadlines and commitments
  • The candidates should possess efficient interpersonal skills, demonstrate interpersonal awareness, and be effective team players
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication abilities, exhibit flexibility in their approach to tasks, and demonstrate creativity in problem-solving
  • The candidates should demonstrate good judgment in decision-making, uphold values and ethics in their work, and be honest and trustworthy

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to assess the children’s development to prepare a tailored learning plan and develop child-care programs that support their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development
  • The candidates should be able to assist co-workers in housekeeping and cooking duties, bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers, and maintain daycare equipment
  • The candidates should be able to engage in storytelling, lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest, and encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
  • The candidates should be able to supervise staff, trainees, or volunteers, synthesize the overall situation of the children, and communicate the information to parents
  • The candidates should be able to assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote children’s development, order supplies and equipment, and assist in keeping records
  • The candidates should be able to guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits, prepare snacks, and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
  • The candidates should be able to observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems, submit written observations to educators or supervisors, and discuss progress and problems at staff meetings
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of licensing regulations, establish guidelines for behavior, and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers
  • The candidates should be able to plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children, plan and organize activities for school-age children before and after regular school hours, and supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and assistants
