Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Marine Basic First Aid Certificate
Experience: Candidates should have experience in a marine environment, including bridge look-out duties and steering duties

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be client-service oriented, work well in a team and ability to solve problems independently
  • The candidates should have the ability to manage time and tasks effectively

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a valid Food Safety and Handling Certificate and a valid Marine Medical Certificate
  • The candidates should have a Bridge Watch Certificate from Transport Canada to SCTW 95 or equivalent as determined by the Canada Shipping Act 2001 and applicable vessel Safe Manning Document
  • The candidates should have knowledge of bridge look-out duties and steering duties, including the use of deck machinery and equipment in a marine environment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of food safety and handling practices and computer skills and demonstrate a commitment to safety
  • The candidates should be required to provide a Certificate of Conduct and the Vulnerable Sector Query satisfactory to the Employer

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform custodial and daily maintenance duties to ensure cleanliness of all areas of the vessel, including the galley, crew quarters, passenger areas, and washrooms, both at sea and in port
  • The candidates should be able to perform general vessel maintenance, including scraping and painting the vessel as directed
  • The candidates should be able to carry out general seaman duties, such as assisting with docking and mooring lines during vessel arrivals and departures
  • The candidates should be able to assist the Marine Cook with meal preparation, cooking, serving, clean-up of tables, and dishwashing for vessel crew members
  • The candidates should be able to use a computer as required for the performance of their duties
