Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of post-secondary diploma in Social Sciences, Child and Youth Worker and Community Development
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be prepared to work primarily in a community center environment
  • The candidates should be flexible with their hours, including availability for daytime, evenings, and weekends

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have process of completing possess equivalent work experience in the youth services field
  • The candidates should have demonstrated experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds and knowledge of social service, educational, and youth services resources within Peel
  • The candidates should have demonstrated experience working with at-risk youth and/or street-involved individuals
  • The candidates should hold a valid Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR B or C certification from a WSIB-approved provider Lifesaving Society Canadian, Red Cross Society, St. John’s Ambulance, or the Canadian Ski Patrol
  • The candidates should have a HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification
  • The candidates should be able to obtain a Level 3 – Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense as a condition of employment, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to support the vision and principles of the City of Mississauga’s Youth Friendly Culture
  • The candidates should be able to raise awareness and involvement among youth within the community by engaging them and providing information about youth-friendly activities and community resources
  • The candidates should be able to develop, maintain, and mentor youth-led advisory group volunteers at the centre, guiding them in leading peer-to-peer activities and providing feedback on city services
  • The candidates should be able to maintain a youth-friendly environment in the community centre’s lobby and common areas and develop a strong understanding of issues and barriers affecting youth participation
  • The candidates should be able to act as a resource to the community centre on positive youth engagement, providing insights and guidance on youth-related matters and ideas on meeting
  • The candidates should be able to engage youth (ages 10-24) who access the community centre and within the community, assisting them in engaging in recreation services and accessing available community resources
  • The candidates should be able to provide mentorship and guidance for youth-driven and youth-led events and activities
