Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed a diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed Grade 12 supplemented by a relevant Trades Qualification with three years of related progressive experience
  • The candidates should have completed Grade 12 and a related Technical Certificate Program (one-year full-time) from a recognized post-secondary institution, along with additional related academic courses and training, including at least one credit course in both supervision and technical writing, supplemented by four years of related progressive experience
  • The candidates should have an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience and a valid B.C. driver’s license with a safe driving history
  • The candidates should obtain a Pesticide Applicator’s License before the completion of the probation period

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform technical work in the planning, coordination, and execution of maintenance and renovation activities related to metal fabrication and welding trades
  • The candidates should be able to carry out hands-on fieldwork in all weather conditions while adhering to industry standards, techniques, and practices
  • The candidates should be able to manage activities and projects within approved budgets and administer contracts as needed to achieve desired outcomes
  • The candidates should be able to read and interpret plan drawings to accurately cut and shape metal pieces for various park structures
  • The candidates should be able to use various welding techniques to join components together, perform quality checks on welds, and assemble fabricated structures
  • The candidates should be able to ensure adherence to safety procedures while working with different types of metals and welding equipment
  • The candidates should be able to obtain necessary permits and oversee the restoration of parkland structures, including metal stairs, doors, chain-link fencing, backstops, gates, and barriers
  • The candidates should be able to perform other trade-related duties as required to maintain and enhance park infrastructure
