Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completed Grade 12
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience and on-the-job training as a qualified Trades mechanic
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the physical coordination necessary to carry out the duties of the position and communicate effectively and interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and plans
- The candidates should understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, establish effective working relationships with crew members and others
- The candidates should be able to plan and organize work projects, maintain records, prepare reports, and provide input for estimates of materials, equipment, and costs
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have possess a GED, a Red Seal Automotive, Commercial Transport and Heavy Duty Mechanic Trades Qualification from a technical and trades college
- The candidates should ideally have a valid BC Class 3 Driver’s license with air brake endorsement or an out-of-province equivalent and a safe driving record
- The candidates should have demonstrated experience performing repairs on commercial vehicles and heavy-duty equipment medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, backhoes, excavators, demonstrated experience communicating and interacting directly with customers regarding mechanical matters
- The candidates should have Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program certification, perform skilled mechanical tasks to diagnose, overhaul, repair, maintain, and adjust equipment and vehicles, experience operating a variety of vehicles and equipment and possess working knowledge of the same
- The candidates should have experience in gas, MIG, and stick electric welding tasks, considerable knowledge of methods, techniques, and equipment used in automotive, commercial transport, and heavy-duty mechanical trades, be knowledgeable about applicable safety regulations
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform a variety of tasks including mechanical overhaul, maintenance, servicing, and repair on a wide range of equipment, including light-duty automotive vehicles, dump trucks, excavators, snowplows, and salt spreaders
- The candidates should be able to inspect and troubleshoot equipment using diagnostic tools to identify the cause of malfunctions
- The candidates should be able to carry out repairs and servicing on vehicles and equipment, including engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic components, brakes, suspension systems, and winter maintenance items
- The candidates should be able to fabricate components, perform welding, and carry out repairs to equipment components
- The candidates should be able to interact directly with internal customers and crew members, ensuring efficient communication and service delivery
