Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 12 education
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years’ underground experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidate should be self-motivated with the ability to work alone, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
Other Requirements:
- The candidate should have accreditation in underground common core modules, a good understanding of pumping systems, including pumps and sump setups, a strong safety focus
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform workplace inspections and ensure the area complies with standards, correct or report any deficiencies identified during workplace inspections to the supervisor, perform general housekeeping of sump areas
- The candidates should be able to fill out monthly inspection sheets for sumps and drain holes accurately, inspect signage and fencing and repair or replace and inspect pumps for proper operation and replace pumps
- The candidates should be able to adjust the height of pumps and float balls, clean pumps and catwalks regularly, clean sumps containing pumps using the Normet sludge pump
- The candidates should be able to inspect pump hoists for proper operation, inspect catwalks and guardrails, if equipped, and report any deficiencies to a supervisor
- The candidates should be able to inspect drain holes for cleanliness and clean them, inspect drain hole inserts and replace them, clean around drain holes using a backhoe
- The candidates should be able to inspect drain holes for proper identification and correct any issues, inspect drain holes for sweep picks and chains, and plan for these items if not present
- The candidates should be able to change out defective pumps and ensure proper rotation, ensure defective pumps are washed prior to being delivered to the warehouse
- The candidates should be able to maintain an adequate supply of pumps on site, ensure defective pumps are sent out for repairs
