Lighthouse Shellfish Ltd. based in Union Bay, BC is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Oyster picker. Lighthouse Shellfish Ltd. has been operated by family and has been for 20 years. Our company specializes in producing fresh and frozen seafood. Types of Pacific oysters, manila clams scallops, Geoduck. Our production facility is in Vancouver Island. British Columbia. Canada is the best place to breed seafood in the world, our whole seafood raises 100% of nature’s food so the product is 100% clean. The candidates who will get selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Work site environment: Outdoors, In/on water, Wet/damp, Cold/refrigerated

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language.
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualifications such as a high school, bachelor’s degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Area of specialization: Clam, Oyster
Weight handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced environment and pay attention to detail.
  • The candidate should be physically demanding and required to work under pressure.
  • The candidate should be willing to work in bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking position for extended periods of time.

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate should be organised and flexible in nature.

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate must be able to feed aquaculture stock, write daily basic progress reports, cull, mark or tag stock and report stock irregularities, operate, maintain and clean pumps, filters and other aquaculture equipment
  • The candidate should clean and maintain aquaculture enclosures, transfer stock to tanks in trucks and pack stock in special containers, rake and gather marine plants, spread and dry marine plants, transport marine plants to processing plants
  • The candidate should dig shellfish from shellfish beds, clean, sort and pack shellfish, assist aquaculture technicians in the operation of fish hatcheries or other aquatic farms, grade and weigh aquaculture stocks
