Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be willing and able to travel to various locations within the North Region and/or Province, which include but are not limited to Armstrong, Fort Hope, Geraldton, Lansdowne House, Longlac, Manitouwadge, Marathon, Nipigon, Ogoki Post, Schreiber, Summer Beaver, and Webequie

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be members in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario
  • The candidates should possess a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s license
  • The candidates should have knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, criminal law procedures, rules of evidence, and case law
  • The candidates should possess knowledge and understanding of the role and function of a prosecutor in the criminal justice system in Ontario
  • The candidates should have proven judgment and analytical ability to determine appropriate legal remedies
  • The candidates should demonstrate interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, along with a proven ability to work with Indigenous Communities
  • The candidates should have the ability to use computer technology and its related software

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to screen and prepare cases
  • The candidates should be able to perform case management functions, and conduct prosecutions for criminal and quasi-criminal offences in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice
  • The candidates should be able to provide professional advice to police and related agencies on criminal matters
  • The candidates should be able to draft indictments
  • The candidates should be able to assist senior counsel with prosecutions and research
  • The candidates should be able to work cooperatively with other justice sector partners
  • The candidates should be able to undertake occasional travel (land or air) that may be required to various locations within the Province
