Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have a safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience within the labor industry and at least 18 years of age
- The candidates should have the ability to follow instructions, rules, and regulations, with essential written and verbal communication skills
- The candidates should be able to work as a valuable member of a team and be comfortable working alone
- The candidates should have good written and verbal communication and comprehension skills and be willing to travel frequently in and out of the province and the ability to relocate within District 4
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and valid driver’s license
- The candidates should have a Commercial Vehicle and air brake license (DZ)
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform trenching, cable distribution, housing installation, and assembly of signal equipment, including wiring of signal equipment and pole line work
- The candidates should be able to work with Track Renewal groups, ensuring the protection of Signal and Communications (S&C) equipment and repair or replace damaged equipment
- The candidates should be able to perform moderate to heavy physical labor on an assigned area of track, including tasks such as shoveling, signal equipment installation, installing ground systems, and electrical connections of rail reporting for color signals
- The candidates should be able to climb poles and conduct pole line repairs, while walking on uneven ground
- The candidates should be able to maintain a strong emphasis on safety at all times, especially in a high-risk environment with heavy moving equipment
- The candidates should be able to work in outdoor conditions, including rain, direct sunlight, snow, and other weather-related circumstances
- The candidates should be able to work effectively in a team environment and may be required to be away from home for certain assignments
