Salary: Based on a 35 hour work week, the rate of pay is based on level of certification:
Level 1 Building Official – $42.34 – $44.56 hourly – Level 2 Building Official – $45.14 – $47.51 hourly – Level 3 Building Official – $48.29 – $50.82 hourly

Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have an Interprovincial Trades Qualification in Carpentry or Plumbing or a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Building Technology
Experience: Candidates should have 2 years of building design and construction experience
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to conduct on-site inspections, including climbing ladders and navigating construction sites
- The candidates should possess the physical stamina for walking, standing, and performing inspections in various weather conditions
- The candidates should have visual and auditory acuity for assessing construction and safety compliance
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- The candidates should provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check
- Additionally, the candidates should meet one of the following requirements:
For Level 1 Building Official:
- Successful completion of the Building Officials Association of BC (BOABC) Level 1 building specialization exam or successful completion of the Level 1 plumbing specialization exam.
For Level 2 Building Official:
- BOABC Level 2 building certification and Level 1 plumbing certification.
For Level 3 Building Official:
- BOABC Level 3 building certification and Level 2 plumbing certification.
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to review and approve building plans and permits, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations
- The candidates should be able to conduct inspections of construction projects at various stages to verify compliance with safety and quality standards
- The candidates should be able to interpret and enforce building codes and zoning regulations
- The candidates should be able to collaborate with architects, contractors, and property owners to address code violations and provide guidance on compliance
- The candidates should be able to maintain records and documentation related to building permits, inspections, and code enforcement actions
