Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with the public and providing service to customers in a recreational facility environment

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work effectively in both a team setting and independently with minimum supervision
  • The candidates should display initiative, reliability, and flexibility

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have current Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates and completed AODA Customer Service or IASR Training and good communication and interpersonal skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of the Department’s facilities, programs, and policies
  • The candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of fitness programs and the use of fitness equipment
  • The candidates should have knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • The candidates should complete cash handling training provided by the City of Ottawa and base knowledge of safe exercise practices, including the use of equipment
  • The candidates should demonstrate effective decision-making and judgment and knowledge of corporate computer software
  • The candidates should have positive and effective communication and customer service skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate leadership abilities and ability to relate positively and effectively with a wide diversity of people

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to oversee and assist customers with the use of a City of Ottawa cardio or weight room facility or site
  • The candidates should be able to ensure a healthy, inclusive, and vibrant environment within the facility
  • The candidates should be able to provide guidance and support to customers to enhance their experience with the recreation and cultural services offered by the City
  • The candidates should be able to oversee the integration of service delivery for an improved client experience in City facilities
  • The candidates should be able to contribute to the overall mission of the Recreation, Cultural, and Facility Services department by promoting access to recreation and cultural places, programs, events, and services
