Requirements:

Experience:Â Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of and experience with cleaning methods/processes and the use of industrial cleaning equipment within an institutional setting (i.e. floor polishers, vacuum cleaners, and materials to perform required cleaning and housekeeping duties)
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should be capable of addressing emergency situations and implementing appropriate therapeutic interventions
- The candidates should be capable of eliciting, interpreting, and evaluating information from patients and other sources, and drawing conclusions to develop treatment and care plans
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess experience with proper and safe equipment operation
- The candidates should have knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) for the safe handling of chemical solutions used for cleaning, as well as knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA)
- The candidates should demonstrate an ability to understand and comply with corporate policies and protocols to work within institutional security practices and procedures (i.e. maintain safety and security of the work area, other staff, and inmate helpers)
- The candidates should be able to determine the appropriate type of cleaning agent to use for various cleaning tasks
- The candidates should be capable of setting daily priorities
- The candidates should be able to recognize equipment problems, the need for maintenance or repairs, and deficiencies or shortages in supplies
- The candidates should have the ability to recognize security and workplace hazards so that corrective action can be prompt, as well as report problems to the supervisor as needed
- The candidates should be able to convey information about the use, care, and storage of cleaning agents and solvents and maintenance equipment
- The candidates should be able to maintain accurate records of the use of cleaning materials and other supplies
- The candidates should be able to alert staff and inmates of caution around obstructions where cleaning is taking place
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform physical cleaning services in all areas of the institution, including operating heavy-duty industrial cleaning equipment
- The candidates should be able to use platform lifts, as well as lift and move office equipment and furniture to allow for cleaning
- The candidates should be able to lift and dispose of garbage and refuse
- The candidates should be able to maintain premises by cleaning, mopping, vacuuming, dusting offices and corridors, washing woodwork and tiles, walls and ceilings, removing graffiti, cleaning inside windows, light fixtures, and vents, as well as removing wax and finishing floors, cleaning washrooms, and replenishing supplies
- The candidates should be able to perform general services such as unloading supplies from trucks, locking doors, switching off utilities, and reporting defective equipment
- The candidates should be able to maintain records and security of cleaning supplies used and request the supervisor to requisition replacement supplies as needed
