Government of Nunavut’s Department of Justice based in Pond Inlet, NU is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Community justice outreach worker. Government of Nunavut’s Department of Justice is responsible for administering justice and legal services throughout the territory. It provides legal assistance, court services, and corrections programs. It ensures the fair and effective operation of the legal system, upholding the rule of law and safeguarding the rights of residents. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Nunavut are Inuktut, English or French Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as a Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
Experience: Candidates should have three (3) years of related experience

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge of adult and youth justice systems within Nunavut and criminal procedures and court processes
  • The candidates should be able to work independently with minimal supervision and possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • The candidates should have effective presentation and public speaking abilities
  • The candidates should have a working knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint presentation programs and be able to organize public events and meetings
  • The candidates should have knowledge of underlying socio-economic issues that affect victims and understand victims of crime issues
  • The candidates should undergo a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check, as this is a Highly Sensitive Position
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to coordinate and facilitate the work of the Community Justice Committee regarding restorative justice referrals for pre/post-charge diversions
  • The candidates should be able to work closely with the Regional Community Justice Specialist in the Government’s implementation and delivery of the Family Abuse Intervention Act (FAIA)
  • The candidates should be able to increase public awareness and access to the Family Abuse Intervention Act
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with Community Justice stakeholders including the RCMP, Community Corrections, Family Services, Corrections, and Parole
  • The candidates should be able to act as a Departmental contact for Community Members by gathering and distributing GN Justice and community resources and contact information

Benefits:

  • The candidates will get Northern Allowance $28,577 per year
