Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a two year community college diploma in either Civil Engineering or Construction Management
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess a Ministry of the Environment, Parks and Conservation (MECP) Water Operator Certificate Level 1, or have the ability to obtain the Level 1 within a one-year timeframe (OIT Certificate may be reviewed)
  • The candidates should possess a C.Tech designation or be able to obtain the designation within a one-year timeframe
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s Licence in good standing throughout the course of employment
  • The candidates should have a comprehensive understanding and technical knowledge of installation methods of municipal infrastructure, including watermains, sanitary and storm sewers, and road construction
  • The candidates should have certification from CSA in concrete inspection and testing and a good working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Work Zone Safety, and all other applicable legislation and specifications
  • The candidates should have strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple and changing demands and priorities
  • The candidates should have excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal skills, essential for dealing with the public, contractors, consultants, and city staff
  • The candidates should have experience working with computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, G.I.S. systems, and Work Order Management systems

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to ensure that all contractors adhere to City Specifications and Standard Drawings, documenting all construction activities in a daily diary and recording quantities and measurements for all road and underground services
  • The candidates should be able to complete all forms and red-line drawings for “As-Construction” drawings in a timely manner
  • The candidates should be able to turn valves and operate hydrants on local watermains within the construction project for the purposes of completing water connections between the new watermain and the existing water distribution system
  • The candidates should be able to complete all required DWQMS (Drinking Water Quality Management Standard) forms
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with residents and businesses on the construction or development project to address concerns and provide updates
  • The candidates should be able to provide weekly sketches of watermains and valving changes on the projects to the Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection staff
  • The candidates should be able to complete final inspections on all projects and report any remaining deficiencies for resolution
  • The candidates should be able to perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager
