Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset
Credentials: Emergency child care first aid and CPR, Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate, and First Aid Certificate
Security and safety: Immunization records, Vulnerable sector check

Physical Requirements:

The candidates should be physically capable of handling demanding tasks and should be prepared for repetitive tasks as part of their duties
The candidates should demonstrate attention to detail in their work and should be comfortable with a combination of sitting, standing, and walking
The candidates should be capable of bending, crouching, and kneeling as needed

The candidates should prioritize punctuality in their attendance and demonstrate dependability in fulfilling their responsibilities

Responsibilities:

The candidates should be able to bathe, diaper, and feed infants and toddlers
The candidates should be able to develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children
The candidates should be able to engage in storytelling
The candidates should be able to supervise staff, trainees, or volunteers
The candidates should be able to lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest
The candidates should be able to encourage children to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music, and physical activity
The candidates should be able to guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits
The candidates should be able to maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
The candidates should be able to observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors
The candidates should be knowledgeable about the Day Nurseries Act and licensing regulations
The candidates should be able to establish guidelines for behavior and assess the abilities, interests, and needs of children
The candidates should attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
The candidates should be able to plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
The candidates should be able to supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
