Alberta Health Services’ Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program delivers rapid and life-saving medical assistance to individuals in emergencies. It provides ambulance services, paramedic care, and pre-hospital treatment to patients in need. Through prompt response and skilled medical professionals, it ensures timely and effective emergency medical care across Alberta. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have Completion of an accredited Emergency Medical Responder or Primary Care Paramedic program
Experience: Candidates should have 3 years Experience with EMS practices and procedures in the North Zone

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have active registration with Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP) as an Emergency Medical Responder
  • The candidates should possess a current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator’s Licence with no more than six (6) demerits
  • The candidates should have completed the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test taken no more than six months prior to the application date
  • The candidates should have experience working in a suburban/rural emergency environment within the past (3) years
  • The candidates should have experience working in an inter-facility transport environment and should have experience in patient care in a clinical or pre-hospital setting
  • The candidates should maintain active Casual status in the North Zone and have additional education related to EMS or professional competencies of leadership or communication
  • The candidates should be willing to orientate entry-level candidates with an interest in the North Zone

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to transport ill or injured patients from scenes of emergency and/or between facilities using ambulances or other modes of transportation
  • The candidates should be able to assess emergency scenes and patients to determine the appropriate course of action
  • The candidates should be able to provide simple treatments to patients as necessary and in accordance with established protocols
  • The candidates should be able to complete required documentation, including patient care reports, accurately and in a timely manner
  • The candidates should be able to assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles are properly stocked and equipped for emergencies
  • The candidates should be able to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals during emergency situations
  • The candidates should be able to prioritize tasks and make quick decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of patients
  • The candidates should be able to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress situations
  • The candidates should be able to adhere to all relevant regulations, protocols, and guidelines governing emergency medical services

Benefits:

  • The candidates will get Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000
