Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of graduated from an accredited university with a degree in Civil Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have experience in geotechnical and materials engineering
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to manage time and tasks effectively and ability to make independent decisions
- The candidates should be available for compensated overtime and prepared for occasional travel throughout the province
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have experience with geotechnical investigations and experience with data analysis
- The candidates should have experience with materials testing and member or be immediately eligible for membership as a Professional Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)
- The candidates should have knowledge of geotechnical and materials engineering and knowledge of drilling and test pitting sampling
- The candidates should have knowledge of testing and inspection of materials for transportation and infrastructure projects
- The candidates should possess supervisory skills, demonstrate professionalism and valid class 5 driver’s license
- The candidates should have a current driver’s abstract satisfactory to the Employer and knowledge of safety regulations, policies, and practices
- The candidates should be a member or be immediately eligible for membership as a Professional Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL)
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to perform professional engineering work in geotechnical and materials engineering, including conducting field investigations such as site visits, drilling supervision, and test pitting supervision
- The candidates should be able to participate in related duties to foundation engineering and slope stability analysis and conduct site inspections to assess ground conditions and geotechnical risks
- The candidates should be able to compile and analyze data from field investigations and laboratory tests and provide planning, technical support, and recommendations regarding geotechnical investigations
- The candidates should be able to participate in duties related to asphalt and concrete mixture design development and review, including conducting statistical analysis on QC/QA and other data
- The candidates should be able to conduct forensic investigations and provide technical advice and prepare work-related reports and perform other related duties
- The candidates should be able to ensure operations involving soil compaction testing, including the use of radiation devices such as portable nuclear density gauges, comply with the Nuclear Safety Control Act and Regulations
- The candidates should be able to administer the overall management and implementation of the Radiation Safety Program for the Department of Transportation and Works Materials Engineering Division (MED)
- The candidates should be able to enforce safe operations of radiation devices and train company personnel on implementing procedures as outlined in the radiation device procedures manual and perform other related duties
