Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering
Experience: Candidates should have at least seven years of experience in rail vehicle fleet engineering, maintenance, and operations

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to apply ‘Systems Thinking’ to address challenges at technical, project, and enterprise levels effectively and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing
  • The candidates should exhibit strong self-motivation, with the capability to perform under pressure while maintaining high-quality standards and be strong team players, adept decision-makers, and capable of fostering collaboration across diverse teams
  • The candidates should work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively in team environments
  • The candidates should demonstrate excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet conflicting deadlines and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings for both existing records and proposed works

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a four (4) year Bachelor of Applied Science and  demonstrate  including testing and commissioning, overhaul planning, life cycle planning, and reliability improvement programs for both new and existing fleets and experience working with transit and rail control systems power control systems, railway integrated control systems, and systems integration
  • The candidates should have knowledge of rail systems, including track infrastructure, power systems, and signaling systems, a working knowledge of passenger railroad and transit operations, including railway industry procedures and practices and demonstrate expertise in urban transit vehicles, covering mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic subsystems, possess knowledge in a railway-specific discipline such as track, track bed, civil and structures, power, signaling, and telecommunications
  • The candidates should understand development lifecycles and lifecycle products, systems architecture or interface modeling, and behavioral or operational concepts, including RAMS modeling and life cost modeling and be adept in risk assessment (technical and project), project management techniques, and practices for planning, documentation, and monitoring of systems engineering activities
  • The candidates should be proficient in architecture modeling and model-based systems engineering tools, as well as operational modeling, capacity planning, and the associated application software, skills in systems engineering, technical assurance, RAMS analysis (with application software), Engineering Safety Management, and Electro Magnetic Compatibility and experience in rail operations planning, assurance, procurement, transaction advice, and feasibility studies
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of health and safety legislation, worker rights, HSE/HMRI railway safety standards, and standards such as AREMA, Transport Canada, and APTA, be familiar with EN 50126 RAMS Railway Applications requirements and railway design safety principles, expertise in project lifecycle management with a strong emphasis on Systems Engineering principles and practices
  • The candidates should have excellent analytical abilities, written communication skills, and advanced verbal reasoning, coupled with the ability to craft effective reports and presentations and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and tools associated with Systems Engineering and exhibit strong persuasive skills to influence others’ perspectives and mentor team members to achieve project objectives
  • The candidates should have experience engaging and liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and project engineering teams, experience managing concurrent projects and ensuring their completion within scope, time, and budget constraints and strong problem-solving skills, including identifying, analyzing, and recommending solutions to project-related issues to mitigate downtime
  • The candidates should have experience preparing and analyzing RFQs and RFPs and making recommendations for acceptance of proposals
  • The candidates should possess the ability to conduct on-site inspections, resolve project-related challenges, and accept or reject contractor work based on quality standards
  • The candidates should be skilled in performing data analysis, formulating recommendations, and preparing detailed reports

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to report to the Manager, Rail Systems and monitor, measure, audit, and review the performance of vehicle maintenance systems
  • The candidates should be able to manage the production of quality metrics to assess the soundness of vehicle system engineering processes
  • The candidates should be able to serve as a single point of contact for technical issues and concerns regarding the vehicle fleets and track, trend, and analyze fleet reliability issues for new and existing fleets
  • The candidates should be able to oversee and provide direction and comments regarding fleet expansions and conduct technical analyses of rail system failure modes and review and monitor operational requirements
  • The candidates should be able to lead rail capital improvement projects and provide technical support and design input during the procurement specification and tender phase of new orders
  • The candidates should be able to review and assess technical design submissions and responses to RFIs and assist with tracking and monitoring vehicle quality issues during procurement and maintenance phases
  • The candidates should be able to assist with investigations, root cause analyses, and technical report writing and investigate system operations and interrelated track and signal infrastructure issues
  • The candidates should be able to complete root cause analyses for system or sub-system failures or issues and manage the development and delivery of vehicle lifecycle and safety programs
  • The candidates should be able to provide support to Transit Operations during major operational events and participate on technical committees and lead project teams, offering engineering expertise to address and resolve project-related issues
