Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of bachelors in Social Science
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • The candidates should have a valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel
  • The candidates should recognize that the nature of this position, with its mandated, often court-ordered services, can result in unavoidable hazards, such as exposure to various living conditions, aggressive behavior, involuntary clients, and unpredictable travel conditions
  • The candidates should be aware that Family Support Workers conduct their sessions predominately in isolation from other staff in various locations offices, homes, community agencies and organizations in both rural and urban settings this can be outside regular working hours
  • The candidates should acknowledge that within homes, hazards may be present

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have an approved child and youth care worker diploma from a provincially approved post-secondary institution
  • The candidates should have an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences
  • The candidates should have sound knowledge of the physical, psychological, and emotional needs of children and youth in a family setting, as well as in care
  • The candidates should have an understanding of and experience with working towards the objectives of the established case plan
  • The candidates should have knowledge of financial management, healthy child development, and life skills
  • The candidates should have a supportive, warm nature to provide support and guidance
  • The candidates should have effective communication skills and the ability to facilitate groups
  • The candidates should have proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • The candidates should have experience with ICM (Integrated Case Management) or child welfare

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate should be able to provide families and children in care with the knowledge, tools, guidance, and resources that are essential to home management, child-rearing, health maintenance, independent family functioning, and individual independence
  • The candidate should be able to assist with the assessment of clients’ needs, offering counseling and education to promote enhanced child and youth management along with access to health and education services
  • The candidate should be able to assist with income and social supports, affordable housing, and life skills such as self-esteem, positive parenting, child development, communication, anger management, problem-solving, household management, safety, and nutrition
  • The candidate should be able to support clients in accessing health and education services
  • The candidate should be able to provide guidance on independent family functioning and individual independence
  • The candidate should be able to offer education and resources to enhance child and youth management
  • The candidate should be able to promote positive parenting and child development
  • The candidate should be able to assist clients with managing household tasks and ensuring safety and nutrition
  • The candidate should be able to provide supportive counseling to improve self-esteem, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • The candidate should be able to help clients access affordable housing and income support
