Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of secondary school (minimum Grade 10)
Experience: Candidates should have up to 1 month of experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should possess the physical capability to perform the ongoing duties of the position and demonstrate proper lifting techniques
- The candidates should be willing and able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
- The candidates should display initiative and willingness to contribute as an effective team member
- The candidates should be available to work different work schedules, including weekends and statutory holidays, and willing to work overtime
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should possess current Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates and successfully complete a Back-fit Test
- The candidates should hold a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points
- The candidates should possess knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers and general knowledge of City Services
- The candidates should be proficient in the operation of hand tools and power tools such as jackhammers, tampers, levels, chainsaws, push snow blowers, push mowers, and grass trimmers
- The candidates should establish and maintain a good working relationship with management, other employees, and the general public
- The candidates should have excellent communication skills to interact with the general public and staff and proficiency in English (oral, reading and writing)
- The candidates should be reliable, self-motivated, and able to communicate with tact and diplomacy
- The candidates should possess a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
- The candidates should understand that experience and formal training, combined with demonstrated performance and ability, may substitute for stipulated academic requirements
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to ensure the City’s municipal infrastructure is properly operated and maintained
- The candidates should be able to manage wastewater collection and treatment and handle surface water management
- The candidates should be able to manage solid waste collection, processing, and disposal and oversee drinking water production and distribution
- The candidates should be able to provide complementary maintenance and labour support for Service Areas within Public Works and Environmental Services
