Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of secondary school (minimum Grade 10)
Experience: Candidates should have up to 1 month of experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be effective team members, available to work overtime and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
  • The candidates should be able to work different work schedules, including weekends and statutory holidays
  • The candidates should possess the physical capability to perform the ongoing duties of the position and and willingness to contribute
  • The candidates should demonstrate reliability, be self-motivated and physical capacity to perform the duties of the position

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have hold current Standard First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates and a valid Ontario unrestricted G class driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated
  • The candidates should be knowledgeable in proper lifting techniques and knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • The candidates should be experienced in operating hand tools and power tools jack hammers, tampers, levels, chainsaws, push snow blowers, push mowers, and grass trimmers)
  • The candidates should be able to successfully complete a Back-fit Test and establish and maintain a good working relationship with management, other employees, and the general public
  • The candidates should have the ability to communicate with the general public and staff and ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to responsible for providing complementary maintenance and labour support for Service Areas within Public Works and Environmental Services
  • The candidates should be able to ensure the City’s municipal infrastructure is properly operated and maintained
  • The candidates should be able to oversee drinking water production and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, surface water management, and solid waste collection, processing, and disposal
