Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have hold Nursing Licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM)
Experience: Candidates should have experience in a similar environment such as emergency, medical, surgical or community programs

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should obtain a satisfactory Certificate of Medical Fitness
  • The candidates should have the ability to work as part of a team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • The candidates should hold Nursing Licensure in good standing with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRPNM) or College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM)
  • The candidates should undergo a satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Security Check, Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Internal Screening Check (must be valid within 6 months)
  • The candidates should possess Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Professional Certification
  • The candidates should have experience performing clinical assessments, experience with patient care planning and have experience working independently
  • The candidates should possess effective verbal communication skills and have strong interpersonal skills
  • The candidates should have knowledge of communicable diseases and the main signs and symptoms of alcohol or drug misuse
  • The candidates should have knowledge of Indigenous culture

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to respond to emergency situations, including the assessment of immediate acute and chronic health care needs, health stabilization, and the treatment of illness and injuries
  • The candidates should be able to conduct medical examinations, provide inmate/staff education, administer medication, and engage in crisis intervention as necessary
  • The candidates should be able to triage and refer clients to appropriate health care professionals, developing treatment plans for inmates and implementing, assessing, and referring to programs and interventions in cooperation with other professionals
  • The candidates should be able to work with considerable independence and without direct supervision as a member of the medical team
  • The candidates should be able to handle some weekend and shift work as required for the role
