Developmental Disabilities Association is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Services offered by DDA include residential support, employment assistance, life skills training, and recreational activities, all tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. Location: Vancouver, BC
Shifts: Day, On Call, Morning
Transportation information: Valid driver’s licence
Work setting: Group home
Target audience: Females, Persons with an intellectual disability, Persons with mental health disabilities, and Persons with physical disabilities

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates need standard educational qualifications such as a College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years
Experience: Candidates should have experience of 1 to less than 7 months
Area of specialization: Community service organization
Computer and technology knowledge: MS Office
Credentials: Developmental services worker (DSW) Training, Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate, First Aid Certificate, and CPR Certificate
Security and safety: Criminal record check and driving record check (abstract)

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and work effectively under pressure, as well as being capable of handling weights up to 45 kg (100 lbs)

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess efficient interpersonal skills and exercise good judgment, adhering to values and ethics
  • The candidates should prioritize client focus and exhibit excellent written communication, as well as showing initiative

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada
  • If Candidates are unable to fulfill above mentioned requirements, don’t apply for the position

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to prepare reports or case histories, appraise clients’ needs or eligibility for specific services, and perform administrative tasks
  • The candidates should be able to implement life skills workshops, liaise with the inmates’ families and contacts in the community, and assess clients’ relevant skill strengths and development needs
  • The candidates should be able to resolve conflict situations, supervise activities of clients living in group homes and halfway houses, and implement behavior management programs
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients, assist in evaluating the effectiveness of treatment programs, and assist clients/guests with special needs, including accompanying them to appointments and social outings
