Salary: $16.71 hourly for 40 to 60 hours per week
Employment Type: Term or contract (ending: 2024-11-01) Full time
Location: Virgil, ON
Shifts: Day, Weekend, 08:00 to 18:00
Transportation information: Own transportation
Work setting: Rural area, relocation costs not covered by employer, various locations, and willing to relocate
Type of crops: Apples, cherries, garlic, grapes, orchard fruit, potatoes, and vineyard

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates don’t need standard educational qualification such as degree, certificate or diploma
Experience: Candidates don’t need experience although having experience is an asset

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have experience in fruit and vegetable combination farming and be familiar with viticulture practices
  • The candidates should be comfortable working outdoors, capable of working at heights, and able to work in wet or damp conditions
  • The candidates should be accustomed to dusty environments, able to work in hot conditions, and capable of working in all weather conditions
  • The candidates should thrive in a fast-paced work environment and be capable of efficiently handling repetitive tasks
  • The candidates should have experience in handling heavy loads and be physically fit for demanding tasks
  • The candidates should possess good hand-eye coordination and the ability to distinguish between colors accurately
  • The candidates should demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and be able to stand for extended periods
  • The candidates should be comfortable with activities such as bending, crouching, and kneeling, and be willing to work overtime when required
  • The candidates should be adaptable to a combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday

Candidate Status:

  • Candidate must be a Canadian Citizen or temporary or permanent resident of Canada
  • Candidate must have legal authorization (Work Permit) to work in Canada

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to apply the technique of hoeing between rows and clear and collect brush and debris from fields, pens, and other work areas
  • The candidates should be able to cut horticultural crops, perform deleafing, and guide growing shoots into optimal development positions
  • The candidates should be able to hand-harvest vegetables, level earth to fine grade specifications, and maintain and manage the growth of vines, vine canopy, and grapes
  • The candidates should be able to pick row and orchard crops, plant, cultivate, and irrigate crops, and manually remove all suckers and water sprouts
  • The candidates should be able to tie and secure plants, train trees to produce more fruit of higher quality, and perform weeding
  • The candidates should be able to write daily basic progress reports, sort and pack fruits and vegetables, and harvest crops
  • The candidates should be able to load, unload, and transfer crates, supplies, farm produce, livestock, and poultry, and examine products for quality and readiness for the market
