Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of high school
Experience: Candidates should have experience in the various building trades (building, electrical, plumbing or mechanical) in the maintenance and repair of large institutions or similar buildings at the semi-skilled level

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should clearly demonstrate their ability to report to the work location within one half hour of notification of an after-duty call
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to report to the work location within one half hour of notification of an after-duty call
  • The candidates should have shift work is required to cover responsibilities that cannot be met with the remaining complement of staff
  • The candidates should have work is performed both inside and outside the site, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
  • The candidates should be physically demanding at times, including lifting, bending, standing, or walking for extended periods
  • The candidates should exhibit the ability to manage time and tasks effectively

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have knowledge across the building trades in the maintenance and repair of large institutions or similar buildings at the semi-skilled level
  • The candidates should possess knowledge of building safety issues and practices and demonstrate the ability to independently troubleshoot problems
  • The candidates should possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s license and reliable and flexible in their approach to work
  • The candidates should provide a current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to the Employer and professionalism is expected in all aspects of the role

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work across the building trades in the maintenance, repair, and operations of the Arts and Culture Centre, Pool, and assigned buildings within the Region, following approved safety practices and codes
  • The candidates should be able to maintain buildings in good condition through preventative maintenance work such as painting, plastering, and minor repair work and remove fire hazards and report safety hazards, and perform annual maintenance checks on various pieces of equipment and building structure
  • The candidates should be able to perform minor plumbing repairs and operate power tools including table saws, electric drills, voltage meters, and equipment such as lawn mowers or tractors, floor scrubbers, vacuums, and snow blowers
  • The candidates should be able to maintain grounds in a clean and well-groomed condition, perform cleaning and janitorial work, and oversee building security and and repair equipment and perform minor electrical work such as replacing light bulbs, ballasts, switches, and light fixtures
  • The candidates should be able to complete reports such as incident reports or inspection reports, order and manage various cleaning supplies and equipment parts, and perform snow removal and ice control and pick up and deliver items such as mail, building supplies, and laundry or linens, and move and assemble office furniture and install shelving
  • The candidates should be able to ensure all doorways and emergency exits are accessible, ensure that all life safety systems such as fire alarms, extinguishers, and emergency lighting are in working order, and respond when alarms are activated
  • The candidates should be able to monitor and keep all chemicals added to the pool to ensure safe operation for the swimmers, including all equipment to maintain heating and filtration of the Pool
  • The candidates should be able to work both scheduled and incidental tasks and collaborate with other trades staff and occupants as necessary for the orderly functioning of the facility and perform other related duties as required
