Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the Inuktut, English and French
Education: Candidates should have undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, public relations and journalism
Experience: Candidates should have three years’ experience in communications planning

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should consider experience working in a northern or indigenous environment

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should typically obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this job through a recognized or related field
  • The candidates should have at least one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • The candidates should note that the Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut
  • The candidates should have fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages
  • The candidates should recognize that knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are valuable

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to manage the department’s communications strategically to influence internal and external perception and understanding of the health system
  • The candidates should be able to liaise with local and national media, providing media relations advice to department spokespersons, and developing department standards for communication products
  • The candidates should be able to participate in the production of department publications and identify and discuss departmental communication needs, goals and priorities as a member of the Senior Management Committee
  • The candidates should be able to research and analyze the current northern media and political environment to determine appropriate means of reaching the department’s target audiences
  • The candidates should be able to draft news releases, health advisory advertisements, and other public communications in consultation with program managers
  • The candidates should be able to assign and delegate duties and responsibilities to subordinate staff and participate in the recruitment process for subordinate staff
