Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of a recognized/accredited program in Health Information Management
Experience: Candidates should have considerable experience in the relevant field
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should constantly sit for long periods of time
- The candidates should occasionally be required to lift files weighing between 10 – 25 lbs
- The candidates should have fine finger or precision work required, and visual concentration is necessary to ensure accuracy
- The candidates should work with standard deadlines and quotas for coding and staging
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have current and continuing certification as an accredited Health Information Management Professional from the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
- The candidates should possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, which are essential
- The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to code diseases, operations, procedures, and other therapies on inpatient and surgical day care episodes using ICD-10 and CCI classification systems
- The candidates should be able to abstract demographic and clinical data from health records utilizing CIHI guidelines and 3M electronic abstracting system
- The candidates should be able to monitor and evaluate the quality of data submitted and take corrective action when necessary
