Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education:Â Candidates should have completion of Grade 10
Experience: Candidates should have at least 6 months of experience working in programs for children or through babysitting
Physical Requirements:
- The candidates should have the ability to provide general care for children
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should have knowledge of and the ability to acquire and apply fundamental knowledge of child development
- The candidates should have the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of current Early Childhood program practices and up-to-date vaccinations
- The candidates should have the ability to acquire and apply knowledge of the Early Childhood Act and Regulations
- The candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to ensure professional and courteous service
- The candidates should have problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict management and resolution skills
- The candidates should have the ability to act as a role model for children and obtain a First Aid Certificate within 6 months of hire
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to implement programming prepared by the Out of School Care Program Coordinator and implement routines for safety and actively engage with children
- The candidates should be able to work with children on problem-solving skills and cooperative play and assist children in getting ready for pick-up at the end of the day
- The candidates should be able to perform assigned duties during emergency drills and evacuations and assist children and families in understanding and appreciating routines and participate in ongoing training opportunities
- The candidates should be able to advise the Program Coordinator of any equipment or material and interact effectively and appropriately with all participants and model appropriate behaviors and ensure that the play space is safe and accessible
- The candidates should be able to teach children safety routines and ensure that the facility, equipment, and resources are accessible to all participants and advise the Coordinator about any safety concerns and sterilize space, equipment, and resources
- The candidates should be able to ensure awareness of medical alert needs of children and assist students with toileting needs and teach children about proper hygiene, such as hand washing
- The candidates should be able to ensure that the play space is clean at the end of the day and provide individual information and support to children, families, and assistants
- The candidates should be able to make the Coordinator aware of information that should be included in the monthly newsletter or calendar
- The candidates should be able to make parents aware of the bulletin board with pertinent information and maintain attendance data
