Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have educational qualifications such as Bachelor of Social Work
Experience: Candidates should have Social work experience in providing services to families, children and individuals

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should demonstrate willingness to work in rural communities
  • The candidates should be prepared for extensive travel as part of the job requirements
  • The candidates should be willing to provide coverage for other workers as needed
  • The candidates should be available for frequent evening, weekend, and statutory holiday work hours
  • The candidates should be prepared for occasional involvement in situations involving angry, abusive, or abused clients and may be exposed to hazards from frequently working around volatile parents and/or children who are in crisis

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should possess experience working in remote communities and indigenous cultural competency and have prior child welfare/intervention experience within the last three years
  • The candidates should ensure that if their Bachelor of Social Work Degree was obtained outside of Canada, it has been confirmed to be assessed for equivalency through any member of the Alliance of Credential Evaluation Services of Canada (ACESC)
  • The candidates who are currently students in a Bachelor of Social Work Program, and can demonstrate the essential qualifications through internships, practicums, cooperative and voluntary placements, and have verification of graduation in 2024 and should demonstrate interest in rural Yukon social work
  • The candidates should have the ability to work in a multicultural environment with an emphasis on Yukon First Nation’s culture and should possess strong knowledge and experience in social work principles and practices in child welfare and case management
  • The candidates should demonstrate interest in child and family services, including child protection and possess sound ethical decision-making and judgment skills that demonstrate the capacity to complete family, children, and individual assessments at a professional level
  • The candidates should have excellent decision-making skills and practice guided by the Canadian Association of Social Work Code of Ethics
  • The candidates should have the ability to build and maintain effective relationships and professional partnerships, demonstrating a professional level of written and oral communication
  • The candidates should have the ability to take a broad-based, strategic approach to community development in response to mandated client service
  • The candidates should have the ability to prepare affidavits or court documents and intervention services, including investigations and core protection services
  • The candidates should have the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, possessing a Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector, a valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent, verification of Bachelor of Social Work, and demonstrate the potential to be delegated within 12-months of hire under the Child and Family Services Act
