Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of an accredited nursing education program
Experience: Candidates should have minimum 1 year within the last 2 years as a Registered Nurse (RN) experience

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have strong and thorough physical assessment skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in stressful and emergent situations
  • The candidates should be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with the interprofessional team

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • The candidates should hold current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification
  • The candidates should have recent adult acute medical (MTU or similar) or acute surgical (general, thoracic, vascular, plastics, neuro, or cardiac) inpatient experience, as well as experience in CU (Critical Care Unit)
  • The candidates should have experience in hemodynamic monitoring, continuous renal replacement therapy, defibrillation, and administration of intravenous medications including neuromuscular blockade, anti-arrhythmics, and vasopressors
  • The candidates should have experience with transvenous pacers and be intravenous push certified and hold ACLS certification and possess a Certificate in Adult Critical Care Nursing and CNA (Canadian Nurses Association) certification
  • The candidates should possess excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and have leadership abilities

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide direct care for patients and families
  • The candidates should be able to maintain electronic and written documentation of care
  • The candidates should be able to maintain professional practice, including mentoring staff, ongoing professional development, assuming Charge Nurse duties when needed, promoting a positive and supportive work environment, and demonstrating professional accountability
  • The candidates should be able to promote a healthy, respectful, and safe practice environment
  • The candidates should be able to provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while ensuring their safety and well-being
  • The candidates should be able to utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families
  • The candidates should be able to play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance
  • The candidates should be able to provide safe, quality patient and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS
