Roads Management Specialist

The City of Nanaimo is inviting applications from suitable candidates for the position of Roads Management Specialist. The City of Nanaimo is a livable urban center that is growing and still maintains its historic charm. It is situated between the mountains and the ocean on the east coast of Vancouver Island, a short ferry trip away from Metro Vancouver, and a 90-minute drive from Victoria. Nanaimo boasts of Vancouver Island University and is rich in parks, recreational, cultural, and social amenities. The candidates selected for the vacancy will be required to start the work as soon as possible.

Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have a Diploma from a recognized College or Technical Institute, specializing in fields such as civil engineering or construction
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in civil engineering design, surveying, planning, and construction, with a particular focus on municipal engineering construction

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should have a Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have completed supplementary coursework in pavement management and asset management
  • The candidates should have extensive experience in pavement management and contract oversight
  • The candidates should either be a member of or be eligible for membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC as an Applied Science Technologist

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to develop solutions to road infrastructure management issues and is responsible for implementing the road rehabilitation program, road inventories, tender preparation, inspection, contract administration, project cost control, and project management for assigned projects
  • The candidates should be able to oversee contractors, and consultants engaged in tasks for the rehabilitation, construction, and maintenance of roads and related structures
