Eastern Health’s Mental Health and Addictions department delivers comprehensive services for mental health and substance abuse. Through outpatient counseling, inpatient treatment and community support, it addresses diverse needs. Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three (3) years of experience out of the last five (5) years’ working in the Mental Health and Addictions field, with a focus in Health Promotion

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be occasionally required to lift or carry objects (presentation materials) up to 25 lbs
  • The candidates should regularly sit to meet with clients and work on the computer
  • The candidates should have visual and auditory concentration regularly required to observe and listen
  • The candidates should be regularly exposed to time pressures occasionally exposed to interruptions due to crisis situations
  • The candidates should have high levels of attentiveness regularly required to assess risk and ensure safety
  • The candidates should have a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver’s License and the use of a private vehicle as conditions of employment
  • The candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should have graduated from a recognized post-secondary institution with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, or a related Graduate Degree in a clinical discipline, such as Public Health, Health Promotion and Health Education, or a related degree
  • The candidates should have experience utilizing a health promotion framework to inform policy changes and develop initiatives to enhance population health outcomes
  • The candidates should possess strong knowledge of health promotion strategies and theories, population health approaches, harm reduction, and the social determinants of health
  • The candidates should have knowledge and experience in program planning, implementation, evaluation, research methods, project management, community development and related to the Mental Health and Addictions field, including current issues, best practices, programs and services, and community resources
  • The candidates should have knowledge and proficiency in the MS Office Suite of computer software and strong oral and written communication skills and project management, organizational, and leadership skills
  • The candidates should demonstrate a high degree of interpersonal effectiveness, good judgment, creativity, adaptability, and commitment to teamwork
  • The candidates should have the ability to stay current on relevant clinical, evidence-based practice to enhance and support program planning, development, and evaluation within the service area
  • The candidates should have the ability to foster and promote a safe and healthy workplace and build networks and manage relationships with internal and external partners and manage continuous improvement and quality processes
  • The candidates should have a satisfactory record of work performance, attendance and current membership or registration with a relevant professional association

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to provide advanced leadership in developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating specialized mental health promotion and addictions prevention initiatives across the life span
  • The candidates should be able to assess community needs and research appropriate initiatives
  • The candidates should be able to work with various stakeholders to facilitate the development of local and regional addictions prevention and mental health promotion partnerships or networks
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with the Department of Health and Community Services and counterparts in other NLHS Zones to develop and evaluate provincial addictions prevention and mental health promotion activities
  • The candidates should be able to travel throughout the eastern region
