Requirements:
Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English Language
Education:Â Candidates should hold a minimum two year diploma
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience working in programs for students with developmental difficulties
Other Requirements:
- The candidates should or equivalent in a Developmental Service Worker Program, BA in Social Work, BEd, Special Education, or a related field
- The candidates should have including developing and implementing educational programs and possess current certifications in First Aid and CPR
Responsibilities:
- The candidates should be able to design, implement, and monitor the curriculum for the AAADD educational program in consultation with team members and oversee curriculum offerings such as Current Events, Integrative Seminar, Experiential Learning or Life Skills, Computers, and Numeracy classes
- The candidates should be able to establish partnerships with various Algonquin departments to arrange AAADD student co-op placements for the Integrative Seminar course
- The candidates should be able to provide regular assessments of student development and meet with parents, social workers, and counselors to discuss future goals and conduct class presentations to inform students about Student Council and extracurricular activities
- The candidates should be able to attend and evaluate indoor and outdoor activities, including field trips, to promote physical health and development and act as a substitute for other team members The candidates should be able to organize program activities such as mock shopping trips, cooking demonstrations, and special presentations by external groups
- The candidates should be able to train part-time replacement staff, DSW students on field placements, and other new hires and perform additional duties, particularly in the absence of the AAADD Program Coordinator
- The candidates should be able to promote the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of students, maintaining positive communication with parents, social workers, and counselors to identify and address
- The candidates should be able to observe students for signs of illness or behavioral changes and take appropriate action and provide first aid in emergency situations in accordance with established policies and procedures
- The candidates should be able to attend team and staff meetings to discuss the program and individual student records and participate in case conferences related to student issues and coordinate the activities of the Advisory Committee, including evening meetings
- The candidates should be able to inform committee members of meetings, create agendas with their supervisor, and distribute meeting minutes and collaborate with the Advisory Committee to develop and execute fundraising initiatives and update AAADD team members on Advisory Committee activities
