Requirements:

Languages: Candidates must have knowledge of the English and French Language
Education: Candidates should have completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of successful experience working with youth in school

Physical Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to handle unusual demands, including support with trade shows and offsite travel work
  • The candidates should be able to manage the transportation of promotional material and adapt to unusual demands related to offsite work at trade shows and promotional events

Other Requirements:

  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of career development and post-secondary educational advising methods and processes aimed at grades 9-12 high school populations
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of local, regional, territorial, and national labour market initiatives, information, data, and trends
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of the territorial senior secondary and high school credit system and requirements for graduation
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of post-secondary education, training, transition, work experience, self-employment, trades, and apprenticeship programs
  • The candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge of territorial and federal funding programs and supports related to post-secondary education, trades and apprenticeship, self-employment, student financial assistance, scholarships, and bursaries
  • The candidates should understand NWT demographic, social, and economic trends as well as Indigenous cultures, educational history, and context, including showing respect for and promoting Indigenous worldviews alongside Western practices
  • The candidates should have skills in written, verbal, and interpersonal communications with diverse audiences and skilled in providing engaging presentations to diverse groups of students
  • The candidates should be skilled in researching and analyzing labour market, occupational, and post-secondary information, trends, and developments, and synthesizing data into products and services aimed at high school populations
  • The candidates should possess with and a northern community setting or a Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Science discipline with a minimum of 5 years of successful experience working with youth in a northern community setting; or a Bachelor’s Degree with a designation as a Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP), Certified Career Strategist (CCS), Certified Work-Life Strategist (CWS), Certified Employment Strategist (CES), or Certified Life Coach with a minimum of 5 years of successful experience working with youth in a northern community setting; or a Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in areas related to guidance and counselling, career development, or student support and 3 years of successful experience working with youth in school and within a northern community setting
  • The candidates should have fluency in English and fluent in an Indigenous language of the NWT or French and skilled in providing recommendations and advice on all matters of career and education advising, including ways to promote occupations in demand

Responsibilities:

  • The candidates should be able to identify and assess program needs to make recommendations for the development of new and improvement of existing programs to ensure effectiveness, relevance, and timeliness of delivery
  • The candidates should be able to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and define requirements, scope, and objectives and use existing relevant policies or recommend new policy elements where applicable
  • The candidates should be able to develop and implement program evaluation plans that result in measurable criteria for program successes and areas needing improvement
  • The candidates should be able to develop program development management plans based on fundamental project management concepts, including setting clear objectives, timelines, target audiences, delivery methods, and evaluation strategies and analyze risks and opportunities
  • The candidates should be able to work with program owners to identify and develop program requirements and scope, including target audiences and program aims
  • The candidates should be able to identify emerging trends and current research in workplace issues and use this information to recommend, design, and modify programs
  • The candidates should be able to help identify potential partnerships for program promotion and delivery and work with the Unit Manager to identify and eliminate roadblocks
  • The candidates should be able to support the development and successful implementation of stakeholder engagement plans utilizing WSCC’s Stakeholder Engagement Framework
  • The candidates should be able to develop stakeholder engagement project materials, including topic discussion papers, topic summaries, and survey questions. This includes providing recommendations and best practices to maximize WSCC’s potential reach to relevant stakeholders to ensure a diverse range of voices are heard
